Designing a touch-screen tool for thermal start-up offers
REN needed an operational interface to help teams create, update and monitor market files related to thermal generation start-up offers.
These offers included technical and commercial parameters such as agent code, group code, fixed term, variable term, start-up timing, ramp-up gradient and the thermal state of the generation group: Acondicionado, Frio, Morno or Quente.
My role as UX/UI Designer was to transform a technical file-based process into a clear, touch-friendly workflow for workplace screens.
The problem
The original process depended on structured data that had to be created, changed and submitted with precision.
For users, this meant working with technical parameters, operational states and time-sensitive files in a context where errors could create friction in the workflow.
The challenge was to design an interface that made the process faster to complete, easier to validate and more visible to the team.
The solution
I designed the platform around three core modules, giving users a direct entry point into each task and making the product easier to use on large touch screens.
Venda
Create a new thermal start-up offer.
Alteração
Update or replace an existing offer.
Alertas
Monitor important system messages and file-status notifications.
Screens
A look at the main screens — built for large touch displays with bold modules, clear forms and visible status.
Core flow
The interface translated a technical submission format into a guided visual form.
Instead of manually preparing a file, users could enter the required data through clear fields, large selectable cards and a review area before submission.
Operational states
The thermal state of each generation group was presented as a large selectable card, turning a technical value into a quick visual choice.
Key UX decisions
Large touch-friendly navigation
The interface was designed for big workplace screens, with large buttons, clear modules and strong spacing — making the tool easier to use in shared operational environments.
Clear operational states
Acondicionado, Frio, Morno and Quente were presented as large selectable cards with icons, turning a technical value into a quick visual choice.
Guided data entry
The form grouped related fields together, helping users understand what information was required before generating each record.
Review before submission
Created records were displayed before sending the final file, allowing users to check, edit or delete entries.
Visible alert monitoring
The alerts screen made unread messages easy to identify and included a “silence all” action, supporting the intended workplace behaviour: workers had to physically check the screen and acknowledge alerts.
My contribution
I designed the UX/UI for:
- —Main module navigation
- —Create sale flow
- —Change sale flow
- —Alert history
- —Touch-friendly layouts
- —Form structure
- —Operational state selection
- —Created-data review
- —Primary actions and status patterns
The focus was to create an interface that supported speed, clarity and repeated operational use.
Outcome
The final design turned a technical file-submission process into a simple operational tool.
Users could create and update thermal start-up offers through guided forms, classify each generation group by state, review created records and send the final file from a single interface.
For REN teams, the interface created a clearer way to manage operational submissions and monitor alerts on shared workplace screens.
